I often ask patients with issues over driving to visualise a particularly traumatic journey in conjunction with the "Film Technique", but without the constant re-starting. In other words telling the story whilst re-living it in the mind.
This works so well that other, less fraught journeys, just dissolve away with the primary event. I will relate the tale of one of my early successes with this technique. This was a lady with children that had grown married and had young families of their own. it was due to one of the grandchildren that the issue reared its head after lying dormant for years.
The patient lived in a lovely rural village and was happy to drive around her friends' and family's houses in the area, but due to the parents work schedules there was a grand-daughter beginning school with no transport, so the mother the lady's daughter, asked if Gran would mind and she said she'd be more than happy. Unfortunately it meant that a good deal of major road driving would be necessary. This is when the underlying problem became a major sticking point.
It was all because of a day some years back when another daughter needed picking up from an airport some 80 miles away and about a one and a half hoer's journey. She drove and following an intimidating trip had to pull off and sit and shake for nearly an hour whilst calling another family member to pick her up and complete the journey.
We tapped on the journey as she was driving it. At the first sign of anxiety we tapped until the 8 became a 2 and carried on. At the next point - being between two lorries - and tapped the 9 to a 1. We carried on until the sitting and shaking in the car. After a brief pause to take on some water I asked her to re-live the trip. this time it was calm and gentle and each previous point of hiatus I asked how she felt and she was fine. she drove home with no problem and dropped me a line the next day say not only was she OK about the forthcoming trips - she was looking forward to driving!
Another email came a few days later and she reminded me of her trip to me on the day of the consultation. The road leading to my practice is a major rout to the coast and the grass verge is punctuated with little memorial to people killed along it. This was one thing that really built the nerves for the lady on that day, but the email said that on the return journey se neve even noticed them. This was about 4 - 5 years ago and things are still great for her.

A Really Annoying Condition
This is about something which pops up from time to time and can really catch you unawares. it's called Secondary Gain. I give a talk about this in my Level 1 workshop uner the heading of "When EFT Doesn't Work", which is probably the only time that it is out of the therapists hands. One of the graduates from my last practitioner course wrote to me about a client they were working with. This client is fairly elderly and incapacitated by pain and general disability.
Following one session they had little pain and could stand and walk around. By the second visit everything had returned to square one? After the second visit the client was pain-free and fully ambulant, so-much-so that a shopping trip of some three hours was undertaken with no ill effects and no sign of any problems returning. A couple of days later the therapist heard that all was as if nothing had ever been helped.
On looking from my vantage point of distance - both geographically and metaphorically (see previous blog-post) - I could see that the support and caring network that friends and family had installed around the client had made them the recipient of a geat deal of attention. Fully fit, this network was unnecessary so the client felt removed from everyone that had been in their life for the past number of years. Therefore the subconscious had reinstalled the health issues so the focus of attention would return to the client.
My poor, newly qualified therapist, was asking what they were doing wrong and I was able to put their mind at ease and congratulate them for the fantastic work they had done over two visits. I reacquainted them with the horrible reason; Secondary Gain! Now they have this realisation it doesn't hurt any more. What I said might possibly save the situation, not to mention the client's health, was to ask them a simple question: Is getting attention more beneficial to her than getting better? I
Until next time; love and energy,
John.

Have you tried Surrogating at all?
I will be the first to admit that I was one of the most sceptical of trainees at my Level 1 Workshop over six years ago now and one of the more difficult aspects I really couldn't swallow, was the idea of surrogating for others - and even animals. I still haven't tried it on animals but I have become a convert to surrogating people, especially now I am acquainted - all most people can be - with Quantum Physics/Theory. For those of you that have no idea what I am talking about, I would recommend;
"What The Bleep Do You Think You Know?" and "Further Down The Rabbit Hole" and when your eyes have uncrossed and focused again, you will understand that everything in time and space are connected to EVERY-thing else.
Once this is accepted in your conscious mind you will be able to realise how and why surrogating works and works IMMEDIATELY! I was on the "Chat" window of FaceBook the other night to a lovely friend that I have made on there and they were explaining that there were some health issues that could impinge on the family as a whole, due to what they saw as inconsiderate behaviour by a friend. We conversed as well as we could in this flaky medium, but when we parted I felt that they needed some acceptance and calm, so I tapped on their issues and fed this into the set-up and then the short-cut sequence. I dropped them a line to say I had done it and an hour or two later I went back on line and discovered an e-mail from them. It said that just after our chat, they felt a warmth wrap around them and a feeling of relaxation entered their body. When they noticed my e-mail some time later, the timing on the mail was exactly when they felt the energy shift. Magic!
Acceptance is the key to healing as far as i am concerned and I will write this up in a future blog to share with you. Until next time; live long and prosper.
Love and energy, John.

Distance is Great for Therapy!
As an experienced therapist and trainer of EFT, I often get chat calls on FaceBook from either students or people I have on my "Friends" list - over a hundred now. They can be absolutely anywhere and the feeling that although they are on my lap-top screen, they are actually the other side of the world, is quite surreal. The remoteness is quite helpful as is gives me space to think in. I know that makes no sense, but that is how it comes across to me. Also there is the typing part of the process. It again stretches out the time and the concentration on the wording and grammar also stretch the thinking process into deeper realms.
Tonight I was chatting to two people at once; one in Canada and one in the next town and swapping between them added yet another dimension to this already multi layered consultation. As questions were asked I could see the answers so clearly and the typing was smooth and accurate to boot. I love EFT and helping either other practitioners with their work, or patients with their problems and social networking has really opened up the world to me - quite literally!
Distance came into its own today, when one of my friends was complaining that she had a lot of symptoms after explaining a deeply emotional event that had happened recently. From the benefit of my couch I could see this was not a lot of symptoms, but a very emotional core issue that was switching aspects as the friend got close to tapping the presenting symptom away. So I explained and it was as if the lights came on for them. All clear now. Let's see what tomorrow brings....
